Country of origin: Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe this to be of Belgian origin.

Style: Art Nouveau – Art Nouveau (French for New Style) is an international movement and style of art, architecture and applied art – especially the decorative arts – that peaked in popularity at the turn of the 20th century (1890–1905).
A reaction to academic art of the 19th century, it is characterized by organic, especially floral and other plant-inspired motifs, as well as highly stylized, flowing curvilinear forms. Art Nouveau is an approach to design according to which artists should work on everything from architecture to furniture, making art part of everyday life. Although Art Nouveau fell out of favour with the arrival of 20th-century modernist styles, it is seen today as an important bridge between the historicism of Neoclassicism and modernism.

Style specifics: Art Nouveau – The use of curvilinear lines is typical for this period.

Period: ca. 1900

Material: platinum and 18K yellow gold

Diamond(s): Four old European cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 1.00ct. (colour and clarity: H/J, si/i).
64 rose cut diamonds and senailles . A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets. We do not have the weight of the rose cuts diamonds nor the senailles which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cut diamonds and senailles.
– All diamond weights, color grades and clarity are approximate since stones are not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.

Birthstones: Diamond is the birthstone (or month stone) for April.

French Late Victorian Antique Ivory Bangle with Big Gold Eagle Head Ornaments by adinantiquejewellery

First let us make the statement that we are glad that the trade in modern ivory is forbidden. Next statement we make is that this piece is over 100 years old and was made in a time that there was no global awareness yet of possible endangered species. We were hesitating to make this purchase as we normally do not buy ivory pieces. What drew us over the line is the fact that this bangle magnificently reflects the period it was made in, the late Nineteenth Century, showing the great goldsmith and sculpting skills the French are so well known for.

An extreme decorative bangle out of undamaged ivory with strong realistically gold made eagle heads, hallmarked with French hallmarks. Unfortunately we couldn't find any master marks in them. But even if we would, the chance that we could then determine the jeweler who made it would be small, as the index of French Master marks is one of the worst to consult. It is made to wear because the heads can be slightly turned once on the wrist.

We have contacted the Belgian office for environmental issues and were told that within the European Community we do not need a CITES-certificate for this bangle as it is antique. Only when our client for this bracelet lives outside the European Community we do need a so-called CITES-document. Only with the name of the buyer of this bracelet we can ask for this certificate and itcan take up to two weeks for the Belgian office of environmental issues to send us this document.

Country of origin: Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe this to be of Belgian origin.

Style: Art Deco

Style specifics: Abstract motives and geometrical forms are quite typical for the Art Deco period. Art Deco moved away from the soft pastels and organic forms of its style predecessor, Art Nouveau, and embraced influences from many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative.

Period: ca. 1920

Material: platinum and 18K white gold

Technique: The rose cuts are set on foil. This is a special technique that was used to bring the lustre of the diamonds to its best quality.

Diamond(s): One big rose cut diamond . And although we do not have the weight of this diamond which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cuts, we estimate this big rose cut at around 1.10 crt.
– All diamond weights, color grades and clarity are approximate since stones are not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.

Precious stones: 16 carre cut sapphires (lab produced) (also called verneuil sapphire). The fact that these stones are lab produced has no influence on the value of this jewel. Natural sapphires and lab produced sapphires were both used in this era, rather more for their effect than for their intrinsic value.

Birthstones: Diamond is the birthstone (or month stone) for April and sapphire for September.

Hallmarks: "950pt" indicating a platinum alloy of 95%

Style: Rococo – Rococo (less commonly roccoco) also referred to as "Late Baroque" is an 18th century style which developed as Baroque artists gave up their symmetry and became increasingly more ornate, florid, and playful. Rococo rooms were designed as total works of art with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, ornamental mirrors, and tapestry complementing architecture, reliefs, and wall paintings. It was largely supplanted by the Neoclassic style. In 1835 the Dictionary of the French Academy stated that the word Rococo "usually covers the kind of ornament, style and design associated with Louis XV's reign and the beginning of that of Louis XVI". It includes therefore, all types of art produced around the middle of the 18th century in France.

Style specifics: Rococo is a style of decoration that followed, c.1730, the baroque style in France (where it was also called rocaille), the principal features of which are asymmetry of ornament and a repertoire consisting to a considerable extent of rockwork, shells, flowers, foliage, and scrollwork. It was developed in France under Louis XV, 1715-74, and spread to Italy, Germany, and Austria and to a lesser extent to England.

Period: ca. 1750

Source of inspiration: Christianity

Theme: Cross – The cross is one of the most ancient human symbols, and is used by many religions, such as Christianity. It is frequently a representation of the division of the world into four elements (or cardinal points), or alternately as the union of the concepts of divinity, the vertical line, and the world, the horizontal line.

Material: 18k red gold and silver

Technique: The rose cuts are set on foil. This is a special technique that was used to bring the lustre of the diamonds to its best quality.

Extra information: This type of pendant is typically Belgian in the late 18th till mid-19th century. They are called 'à la Jeannette'. A croix à la Jeanette (French for: "cross in the style of Jeanette") is a pendant in the form of a heart with a latin cross dangling from it

Diamond(s): Six table cut rose cut diamonds. We do not have the weight of the diamonds which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cuts.
27 senailles . A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets. We do not have the weight of these diamonds which is normal in our trade when it comes to senailles.
